Who is Hailey Pitcher?

I'm Hailey Pitcher, and I'm glad you're here! I hope the traffic wasn't too bad. Can I get you a drink? The usual? Alright, fine, I'll get to the part where I tell you about myself.

I'm a graduate from Boston University where I received my Bachelor of Science in Journalism in May of 2025. Currently, I am the nightside reporter for WJHL Tri-Cities, located in Johnson City. Throughout my time in the Tri-Cities, I have covered a multitude of topics ranging from Johnson City's controversial last call ordinance to BWXT's rezoning request to the disappearance of fugitive Union High School coach, Travis Turner. Additionally, I have been featured on WJHL+ weekly political show, Tri-Cities This Week, a segment discussing how decisions made in the Tennessee Statehouse can affect the Northeast Tennessee region.

During my studies in Boston, I immersed myself in an array of different areas of studies, previously including English, French, international relations and CORE classics in my curriculum. While working towards completion of my major, I completed courses in video editing and news writing, and speciality courses in sports, trauma-focused reporting and narrative writing. In Spring 2024, I had the privilege to study abroad in London. The four-month program allowed me to study, research, work and travel the European continent. It was eye-opening culturally, professionally and personally.

I began writing for BU's independent student newspaper, the Daily Free Press, in my freshman year. I started in the features section, reporting on arts initiatives on Boston University's campus and occasionally lending my talents to the city section of the paper. In 2023, I premiered my opinions column, Mad Women, a column exploring women in pop culture and their impacts on feminism. In Fall 2024, I had the privilege to serve as the opinions co-editor, honing my editing and writing skills, and best of all, introducing me to an incredibly talented and hard-working editorial board with whom I have the most amazing memories. After my time on the editorial board, I served the paper that served me so well as Grants and Awards Chair of the Back Bay Publishing Company whilst continuing my column.

In my freshman year, I also began participating in BUTV. First, starting as a stage manager for The Wire, I learned the basic skills needed behind the scenes of a newscast, such as camera operation, post production and directing. Later, I became an anchor, reporting on local, sports, entertainment, national and international news during my four years on the mic.

I've had various internships throughout my college career, ranging from local reporting to overseeing local and national government ordeals to broadcast reporting. Some of my favourite moments from my internship experiences were sitting in on Parliamentary meetings and reporting from the CMA Music Festival.

I was born and raised in New York, and I moved to Tennessee with my family in 2024. My family has Irish roots, and we have always taken great pride in our heritage. The two constants in my life were always writing and music. I got my first guitar when I was six years old. I wrote my first short story the same year. In high school, I was a stereotypical nerd, always at the yearbook and newspaper offices in the back corner of the school.

As for career aspirations, I'd say my educational, professional and personal background has led me to an incredible interest in national and international politics. You can always find me listening to podcasts regarding international policy and keeping up with the political climate of the United States.

I'd be happy to speak more about my experience and aspirations over Zoom or even over coffee. You can find my contact info on my resume or through the sidebar.
